Yasen Class Submarine 1.2m

Russia’s Silent Hunters

The Yasen-class (Project 885/885M) nuclear-powered attack submarines represent the pinnacle of Russian undersea warfare technology. Designed to replace aging Soviet-era vessels, these submarines combine stealth, firepower, and advanced automation, making them a formidable force in modern naval warfare. The Severodvinsk, the lead submarine of the class, was commissioned in 2014, while improved versions continue to enter service.

This is a developed version of our previous Yasen Class 3d model. This one is much more detailes, 1.2m long and consists of 50+ parts, 3d printable on a standard 22x22cms printbed. Interlocking details for assembling the parts together. Moving control surfaces, periscopes, propellers, silo hatches, missiles etc. Different version of parts for use in various projects. RC convertible. Go directly to the purchase page of the Yasen model. Continue reading for the rest of the article, renderings and your free STL file.

One of the most impressive aspects of the Yasen-class is its stealth capability. These submarines are built using a single-hull design with extensive soundproofing to reduce noise emissions. Russia has incorporated advanced acoustic coatings and an improved pump-jet propulsion system to make the Yasen-class as quiet as possible. Some reports suggest that they are on par with, or even quieter than, their American counterparts, such as the Virginia-class submarines.

Firepower is another key strength of these vessels. The Yasen-class submarines are equipped with eight vertical launch system (VLS) tubes, capable of firing a variety of cruise missiles, including the Kalibr, Oniks, and potentially even the hypersonic Zircon missile. These missiles enable the submarines to engage land, sea, and underwater targets from long distances. In addition to its missile arsenal, the Yasen-class carries torpedoes and anti-submarine weapons, making it a versatile threat to enemy fleets.

Automation and technology also set these submarines apart. Unlike older Russian designs, which required large crews, the Yasen-class benefits from a highly automated control system, allowing it to operate with a crew of around 64 to 90 sailors, significantly fewer than its Western counterparts. This advanced automation enhances efficiency and reduces human error, allowing for more streamlined operations.

The Yasen-class comes in two main versions: the original Project 885 and the improved Project 885M (Yasen-M). The newer Yasen-M variants, such as Kazan and Novosibirsk, feature upgraded electronics, reduced noise levels, and improved combat systems. These enhancements further increase the submarine’s survivability and lethality in modern naval conflicts.

As Russia continues to modernize its navy, the Yasen-class submarines play a critical role in its strategic doctrine. With their ability to strike from the depths of the ocean with precision-guided weapons and their exceptional stealth capabilities, they remain one of the most capable and feared attack submarines in the world. While the U.S. and its allies continue to develop their own undersea technologies, the Yasen-class ensures that Russia remains a dominant player beneath the waves.
